For a while now I have wanted to spend some time on the Pony Express Trail. About two weeks ago I finally made it out to the west desert. Friday evening we met up with some family in Delta, then headed north towards Fish Springs Wildlife Refuge. Driving in the dark we pulled off the road to camp for the night, right before getting on the Pony Express Trail. Around 2am I woke up hearing what I thought was maybe jet getting ready to fly. Being close to Dugway I thought maybe it would be a fighter jet. Turns out that jet I heard was just truck driving down the road really fast. That was a bit of a bummer. But what I did get to see was how well lit everything was with an almost full moon and very little clouds. It was impressive.

Morning came, and the views got better. Looking towards George H. Hansen Peak.

After getting ready for the day, we headed west towards Callao, Utah. Our first stop was at an archeological site where some of the oldest signs of human activity in the west desert have been found.

From there we continued west.

Once we made it Callao, instead of following the Pony Express Trail west, we decided to head south to save some travel time for some family members that would be headed home later in the day. Our next stop was at Gandy Warm Spring. With it being a little bit colder of a day, we had the place to ourselves.

After we finished up at the spring, we decided to head home. On the way home we passed a couple places that I want to check out next time I am out in the area. Also, driving passed Notch Peak on the way home reaffirmed that I need to go hike it sometime soon. It was a very successful weekend. I have always enjoyed the scenery that west desert provides.

Should check out some of the roads into the Deep Creeks and the Eagles Nest ghost town up top (hike). Fantastic country
