I figured someone should get this going, so I took it upon myself, though I'm usually on the lower end of the rankings.

Here's what @Artemus had to say about Bag Night Challenges last year:
There are no official rules, but a bag night here is typically defined by a night out camping in some form. It doesn't matter if you sleep on a tarp, in a tent, or in the back of your car. It is more of an attitude thing. If you are outside to enjoy nature, if it's camping, it's a Bag Night."

Whoever spends the most nights in the sleeping bag wins. What do you win? Bragging nights, and having spent a great deal of time outdoors.

So go ahead and post your 2018 bag nights!

EDIT: Nick has an actual prize for whoever gets the most bag nights.

1/5 - 1/6: Along the Left Fork of North Creek, outside ZNP - 1 night
Total: 1 night

I didn't get any pictures of the camp site since we got there after dark and left before sunrise. So here's one of what we went for the next day.

My first camping trip of the year didn't go very well...

How does that happen? Over tightened at a shop? Did you find the cause?

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I would guess that they came loose somehow instead of being overtightened. I only found one stud with a lug nut still on it where the wheel came off, and when I checked all the other wheels they were all torqued properly. I'm just glad the wheel didn't come off on I-70 when I was driving 85mph the evening before...

Wild! WHICH Cottonwood wash were you in, Randy? How much and how difficult was the tow? This kind of thing gives me nightmares and there is no contingency plan for it except trying to install new bolts. I sometime wonder if I should be retorquing each wheel routinely with a torque wrench as advised. But that is a lot of trouble. I'll bet you didn't hear any rattling due to loose lug nuts as you were driving along. I have had that problem and saved myself by retightening before catastrophic failure.

Thanks Jackson! I hadn't gotten around to it yet and I still need to recap and finish out last year. Glad you took the initiative.

Art's Bag Nights 2018

- 0 - nowhere (too much a freeze baby maybe)

Cottonwood Wash in the northern San Rafael Reef.

The tow wasn’t too bad since I was only about 5 miles down a decent road.

I have put 5 spare wheel studs and lug nuts in my tool bag now...just in case....

Let's see, for January I got 20 bag nights after a 20 day backpacking trip into the mountains of NC and TN---

My trip started in a cold rainstorm which turned to snow at 10F. In fact the whole trip was butt cold.

I only see 3 backpackers during the trip and all of them are BMT thruhikers. This is Greenleaf and Apple Pie.

One of my favorite trip shots on 7 Mile Ridge. I'm using a McHale Demo pack and it works pretty good for the whole trip.

My coldest morning is on Little Santeetlah Creek at 0F or -2F. Glad I brought my microspikes.

I rarely hike in so much clothing so you know it was cold.
