Best time to photograph Zebra Slot?

I am hoping to visit Zebra Slot Canyon next week. Do you have any suggestions for best times to photograph the slot? I had thought that mid-day would be best since it's a slot canyon, but I'm worried that there would be too much direct light then.

According to my book, Photographing the Southwest, "...mid-morning before the sun strikes the walls directly."

Well the slot is very short and there's a lot to see in the general area, just go and circle back to the slot in an hour or two if the light sucks. It's a quick hike from the road and the days are long now!
