Currently planning a trip into the Teton Wilderness starting at Deer Creek. I’m looking for some general info on good routes (I know they’re all great haha) to go after the pass. I know I’d like to follow Thorofare Creek some and head over by Younts Peak and onto the Buffalo Plateau, maybe from there over to Ferry Lake, but not sure after that. We’ll have roughly 9 days and we’re just looking for an absolutely incredible route. Also any info on shuttles around Cody would be awesome since I plan to start at Deer Creek. We plan on starting this trip on July 27 or 28th.

@Kmatjhwy will be able to give you some good tips if she's around.

I think the overriding principle here is that, no matter what route you go on up there, it's going to be wonderful. I may cross paths with you out there, as I'm planning on being there the first days of August. Where are you planning on hiking out? Brooks Lake is awesome and would work well if you were going to be on the Buffalo Plateau, but that's a heck of a shuttle to work out between there and Deer Creek.

You could also void the shuttle hassle entirely and go down east from the Buffalo Plateau and back to Deer Creek trailhead via the S Fork Shoshone (or you could go through Bliss Creek Meadows first if you wanted some extra distance...). There are so many options!

My initial plan was to do a loop back to Deer Creek, but there’s so many options it’s hard to decide on just what to do. I’ll enclose the route I highlighted on the map. I’ve also considered heading west to Ferry Lake and then down Woodard Canyon and take the Yellowstone trail to Hawks Rest and head back towards Deer Creek via Thorofare Creek, Ishawooa Pass and Butte Creek to the trailhead.
So many options! Our plan is to be out there from July 28 through August 5th. Maybe we’ll see you out there or possibly meet up on the trail one day depending on our routes and timing.

The more I look at it and the more I think about what I want to do it looks like starting and ending at Brooks would be far more convenient, it’d just make anything I do longer, which isn’t a bad thing.

Here is an updated route if I start at Brooks, just trying to figure out final portion.

Brooks Lake is wonderful. A suggestion for your way back would be to just go off trail along the Buffalo Plateau roughly following the Continental Divide back to the pass between the S Buffalo Fork and Cub Creek, then follow Cub Creek back. I've done the portion from the pass back to Brooks Lake and it's lovely. Didn't see a soul the entire way. Haven't been on the Buffalo Plateau, but I've read multiple reports showing how it's pretty straightforward navigating across it, and many have done the exact route I described.

That would probably add another two nights on to your trip though unless you cut something else out. Turpin Meadow could be another good starting point to consider.

Here’s the final route, after tons of looking and studying and more looking and studying the area and terrain I think this loop out of Brooks Lake and back looks to be the best option for what I’m looking to see and do.

Route Looka great. The whole thing is nice, but the eastern half with that huge ridge walk on the Divide will be the highlight. I'd recommend doing it clockwise somethings just keep getting better all trip long.there are a couple of different routes that work to get onto/off of the divide near Brooks lake. It'll be steep, but doable.

Thanks for the feedback, definitely much appreciated. We are doing it clockwise and I agree it should be a very beautiful trip, I’ve had this area on my list for quite some time and now that it’s 7 weeks away it feels like time is just standing still haha.

That will be a good one. I've mapped out a similar route I'd love to do someday. Have a good trip.
