I'm a bit confused, is that an arm twist? :)

Thwarted at 18 this past weekend Skipper. Might be a rainy this coming weekend. I think I am back in the trouble zone for this ride.

So as I have mentioned before, I took the tandem down to a local bike shop to have it tuned up back in February as it has just been sitting for the past ten years. I usually keep two brand new tubes in the seat packs that fit under each seat on the tandem, so one tube per seat pack. The tubes that I had in the packs had dry rotted when I took the tandem in for the tune up so when I picked the tandem up after being worked on I asked for two new tubes to replace the old ones. The guy in the bike shop handed me two boxes with tubes and rang me up for the tune up and the tubes. As soon as I got home, I took the tubes out of their boxes and placed one in each seat pack.

So fast forward to last Sunday. After getting the flat, I took the wheel off the bike, removed the tire and took the tube out, I then pulled out one of the new tubes and unfurled it and when I got to the end and the valve stem appeared my heart sank. The guy in the bike shop had sold me two tubes with schrader valve instead of a presta valve which the tandem takes. I hadn't taken the time, when I replaced the tubes in the seat packs, to read the box the tube came in to realize that it was the wrong valve. :( The new tubes are folded in such a way that the valve is hidden from you until the tube is completely unfurled, which I didn't do either. Hopefully, I won't be making that mistake again. Once I got home and checked out the flat, it appears the valve stem was the culprit. I exchanged the schrader tubes for presta ones yesterday after work.
Ah, the old Schrader versus Presta problem. It gets even the best of us, and sometimes you can even have the wrong kind of pump. I’ve thrown a shoe a couple of times and had well meaning people try to fit me with the wrong size and some things just don’t work.

More like the old Scatman doesn't have a brain problem! :scatman:

I did not want to interrupt all the banter about @scatman bikini, not being old, and all of that fun, but I could not find the Micro Trip report thread that I remember, or maybe falsely remember having.

So I will interject fast, and then back to the regularly scheduled banter @Rockskipper

Last weekend, I did not have any events, and I had a willing victim in my youngest daughter.
My son, even with the promise of off-road driving could not be convinced.
The weather was also perfect with barely a breeze.

The pics are not in order, but that is fine. We drove out to Wendover for the only downer of the trip. My daughter asked for McD's- stale nuggets, yuck. The only other miss was that there were no air force jets training over the range this weekend.
Then we were back on Silver Island road. Not very busy, just a few spots near the highway were taken. The salt flats are still a little muddy under the surface, so there was no driving on the flats this trip. That is normal for spring.
We had pretty much zero bugs and a good sunrise over the Newfoundlands in the morning.

Scenery on the way. Out on Floating Island, we found these quality casino chairs with a view.

We stayed the night, roadside with only a little jackrabbit kit that binked around and checked us out for a good twenty minutes, before finally running away. Quiet night, with just me snoring at a waxing gibbous.
IMG_8637.jpgIMG_8653.jpg

We drove the dike road all the way back to the Interstate, which meant we could stop and wander the flats where no one was around.

You can see here a pretty good mirage, and why it is called Floating Island. look at the edges of the dark mountain.

That's it.

The floor is all yours @Ugly. I love all of your shots. Lots of stuff I still need to do in the west dessert. Have you summitted Pilot Peak?

Extended to 51.5 miles this morning along the Legacy Pathway and the Jordan River Trail. It started out a cloudy, slightly wet, chilly morning, but the last 10 miles the sun poked out and it made for a nice riding day. We got to see a fox and a couple of blue herons on the ride along with many other birds.

Wet and some slight sprinkles at first

I took off a bit of hair in anticipation of it being hot in Arizona.

A trip with my aging parents and siblings (who are also aging), was never going to be an action-packed hiking adventure.
Instead it mostly centered around food and time together at a house we rented in Fountain Hills.

We did some walks, and we spent one morning hiking to the top of the mountain pictured below.
Camelback.

It is not my normal hiking fare, and honestly, it is not really a hike, but a long rock scramble. Over 1200' elevation gain in 1.25 or so miles. It was crowded too.
One starts off in Hiking prison, caged in from the expensive houses all around.

There are some good views, and the desert was in bloom. It was also only 75-80d, pretty nice temps.

We also had to go over and see the fountain.

Lol..... I can remember when they first built that area and put the fountain in ... Way crowded now.

61.2 miles for the Wrecking Crew today. This will be our last big ride before next Saturday's century.

Notice the gnats on my chin? We had to deal with a lot of them today. I'm sure I got my daily
protein for the day.

Most of the pictures from today's hike had issues, so I'll keep it simple.

It was a good day to see a Great Blue Heron.

I had to stop and take this picture for @scatman. Can anyone see why?

How about now? Rumor has it he has snapper envy.

Post hike meal was had at a new (to us) location: Boss Chik n' Beer in Cuyahoga Falls. I opted for the Morning Chick Burger -- not bad! The drink is a lemonade. I'm not sure why it is purple.

In case you noticed the Star Wars booklet on the counter, I learned today (May Fourth) is Star Wars Day. It explained why there were quite a few people dressed as droids, Boba Fett, and Chewbacca wandering the streets.

No, I was not one of them. . . but May The Fourth Be With You. ;)

Love snappers! Now if you picked up one by the tail and snapped a shot of you doing it, then I'd have snapper envy! :D

Im expecting that pose first night of camp up Deer Creek......

You're going to get that pose in every cardinal direction when we reach our first campsite on Deer Creek. And just think what will happen when we make the pass! Get your cameras ready. :)
