Yesterday we drove out of town to do an area hike and Rick said: “That's Matt- with the wrecker”! Sure enough that was Matt himself from Matt’s Off-road recovery, awesome. Spontaneous and enthusiastic waving happened and they politely waved back to the fans in yellow Jeep :) We drove further and started a canyon loop hike.

Beautiful canyon with a short steep ascent:

Climbing continued, easy rocky route ahead

Almost there. Notice how Rick is carrying my poles that I usually never bring…… because well, I’m not fond of poles, but occasionally need them.

Great views! Couldn’t wait to get a closer look.

Wait… is that rain? Nah… two months with no rain and 20% chance today. It’s not going to happen.

So we continued to finish a loop hike

And then I saw the emergency poncho get unfolded, wait.... “Where’s your wind breaker & raincoat ? The one you have been carrying every day for two months? Didn’t bring it, I heard”

Some discussion followed, as we had barely started the hike. Hm…. It’s the desert, how bad can it get? We decided to head back, uh…. I wasn’t convinced heading back over slippery boulders would be better than finishing the loop. But this was unfamiliar terrain.

Not fond of poles, but brought them on this hike and they now came in handy.

Eh… wait! We were just up there. Is that blue sky? Think the poncho can come off now!

Looking back. We got tricked! Lesson learned.

Looking back up! What the heck, so much blue sky.

We got back to the car and Gaia showed 2.28 miles exactly  - that’s a record low for sure!
This was not what we planned, we should have pushed through, another desert lesson learned.

We headed into the park and made another stop where families were having fun in the lava tubes close by!

As they say around here (and a lot of other places it seems): Don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes. Sometimes that works, sometimes not.
Love the intense reds around that area!

Incredible shots! Wonderful looking day out there. And that food looks just as good as the scenery!

Is this in the same area as your current guess the spot Utah edition post?

Oh that's right. I'm asleep over here.
