Making a trip to the Wallowa Mountains the week after labor day. Will the elk be bugling then or will I be too early?

I wanted to make the trip a week later but this is the time I got to go. No route made yet but looking at Ice Lake and Glacier Lake.

How about Windy Saddle Campground in the Seven Devils area in Idaho. Can it be accessed with a car or would I need SUV/Jeep. Want to stop there for a few days also but will most likely not have a 4X4 rental available.

Hi, @Nodust. I'm new to this site but have spent a lot of time in the Wallowas and one trip in the Seven Devils. I don't know the answer to your elk timing question, but on the one trip I did there in September (16-18, 2010) I don't recall hearing any bugling. I camped at Jewett and Glacier Lakes. When I did the Seven Devils in July of 2010, the road to Windy Saddle was fine for just about any vehicle, for what that's worth 9 years later.
