Bag Night Challenge 2017

2017 Total YTD: 6 Nights

Dec 30-Jan 2 > Bears Ears National Monument > 1 Night (in 2017)
Feb 3-5 > St. George boat cleaning trip > 2 Nights
Feb 10-12 > Colton Guard Station, Uintas > 2 Nights
Mar 10-11 > Hurricane Cliffs > 1 Night

Should have added 2 nights to the board this weekend, but this happened this morning near the end of my first ride of around 10 planned for the weekend. No major injuries but I'm pretty beat up and can't get my knee to get through a full cycle of the pedals. But no ER, so there's that.

Ya know Nick. I have had a friend send his bike off the trail into the canyon below! Dam...be careful. Take care of the knee. And thanks for making me a little home sick for STG.

I'm counting this ...

2 nights (3/10-3/11) - Grand Canyon backcountry parking lot in my adventure van.

We left from SLC at 330, we arrived at 1am on Friday morning, slept from 130 to 330, got up and readied the packs, hit the Bright Angel TH @ 445. We hiked Rim2Rim2Rim in 23 hours, returning @ 345am. Roughly 50 miles and 21,000 feet gain/loss. It was an epic day. It was so nice to get back to the van and just sleep.

Here's some pics...

w00t! Well done, lad! I have done it too but only each way in a day. That is smoking along. Did you run some? What was the morning rim temp and the river bottom air temp?

Thanks Artemus!!

We ran a little in the am before fatigue really set in. The top was about 30 degrees when we left. The highest was probably 70 but we never stopped too long to notice [emoji3]. The North Rim at 130pm was mid-40s. Ice on both S & N rims for the top .5 to 1.5 miles too.

Two days would be fun too!

Just his bike? Not him? There is a lot of really exposed trail along that rim. I couldn't help but think that people have to have gone off of it. Fun ride though, up until getting my ass kicked. You're pretty into the MTB scene; have you ever heard of a front disc brake randomly locking up?

Finally, at long last, on the board for 2017. Lower Courthouse Wash was dammed up by beavers and I ended up swimming across in one spot. At 9AM. Brrrr!

He was lucky. So was his bike they had to recover it the next day, it had very little damage.

I haven't heard of a front brake locking up...but the right size pebble at just the right moment lodge in there and cause it to.

I love that trail. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

Found this site(near green river) in one of @Nick 's old trip report and tracked it down in Google maps. :) . Also got to test out new equipments, awning and the comfy chair in this trip.

I've got to say, I am totally jealous of you western people with the drive up to killer campsites. These trucks, campfires, and killer views are something I could get used to ( I assume there are coolers full of view just out of camera range) :)
